Does anyone have geothermal heat and what does it save you?

we are thinking about installing a geothermal system, it's sounds 'to good to be true' 65% savings on oil for $13000 (1400 sq ft. home) after government grant. my husband says it would skyrocket our hydro bill. does anyone have a system and what are your experiences please!

  1. I'm unclear about why it would effect your hydro bill, but I'd definitely include that cost in your calculation. I'd also factor in the fact that energy costs world wide will continue to double every year and a half. Internet query: "peak oil"

    Geothermal is cost-effective, you might also consider solar panels that collect heat in a fluid that is then transfered to you hot water system. There are many strategies and alternatives to consider. I would not trust a sales person. I'd hire a professional to review your options and consider this one.

    If you are like most people, a combination of heating and conservation strategies will be most effective. Passive solar is reliable and effective, but you might need either a new home or a substantial home addition and it might not be appropriate for your house.
