Does anyone have information about or experience with taking garden seeds into India?

Namaste

I plan to be taking seeds with me for fruits, vegetables & herbs, and for flowers.

I would like to know

1. what one is permitted to take to India from the US

2. if documentation from the US Department of Agriculture is required

and

3. I would like to know your source of information about this subject, so I may keep up with the latest policies on this matter. I am in the process of trying to find this info. from the Indian Consuate, but I would love some feedback from the private sector.

However, I feel that you can personally carry small quantity of seeds in your baggage without any problem.
