Depends on his music style.

I hate rap, I think it gets kids (esp. boys) thinking in the wrong mindset.

I think that musicians like Fall Out Boy, Cute Is What We Aim For, Jack Johnson, etc... are all pretty ok influences and are also relevant to his age.

depends on what type of music he likes. i like to listen to alot of punk, pop-punk, rock, metal, emo, screamo, pop music and lately i've been listening to alot of really good christan rock bands.
