Does anyone have really gooooood luck with roses?

I love roses. That being said. what is the secret to healthy plants and large roses in bloom?

My son is a landscape gardener & has the best roses in his neighbourhood. He has them in raised beds, mulches with either mushroom compost or lucerne hay.He prunes them several times per year, feeds and waters regularly & applies white oil & Rose spray when necessary.He also uses sheep & cow manure on them.

Italiana Mama is actually my mother and I can attest to the fact that she ABSOLUTELY has THE SINGLE BEST ROSES I have ever seen.  

She continually wins neighborhood awards and strangers stop to comment on them.

The advice that she gives should be followed to a T.

Don't laugh but I talk to them every day, and take care of them for an hour every day. I take care of the soil and water and remove old buds. I hope that helps!

I love my roses and I have alot of them 42 bushes. I water them everyday, but when I water them I never water the leaves nor the rose just the ground. I fertilizer every week 1 week I use a blossom buster,2 week then a rose fertilizer ,I try to get zoo doo {yes it comes from the animal p**p from the zoo but it is processed} The roses love it. 3 week Epsom salt. When I cut a rose I go down to the group of 5 leaves I then cut the rose stem at a angel. When the cold weather comes I prune the bush down and I put them to bed by throwing straw around the base and throw the garden.

Roses need full sun most of the day. Use a good organic rose food, like E.B Stone. About 1 1/2 cups during spring, summer and fall. They don't need a lot of water.  I buy fertilizer and soil amendment from a good nursery, not your local Home Depot.

a sunny spot with air circulation and plenty of water every other day and bone meal around the base of the plant with of course some mulch
