Does anyone have regrets on what they named their child?

I used to like some names that I do not like anymore, so if I had a baby back when I was 18 or so, most likely my child would have some crazy out there name. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone.

  1. I named my daughter Cassidy Lee. Since I am part Irish, I picked Cassidy because it is of Celtic origin and means clever and ingenious. Lee was a compromise between my mother and I. She wanted her middle name to be Leander, but I thought Lee was better and so did my husband. We had her name picked out but month 6 or 7and Cassidy is now 4 1/2 mo

I forgot t add that I am still completely in love with her name and how it flows with her last name!

  2. Yes.  My one year old is one of dozens of Alexanders of similar age.

I wanted a Dexter (after the showtime series by the same name)

OR a Gabriel (after the angel, not the bad guy on Heroes)

That Alexander weighed 9 lbs 3 oz - you think I would have had more name pull after pushing that sucker out! LOL

  3. no not at all but i have heard some very silly names in my time  i go for normal names not made up ones

  4. OH, yes.  I am fine with my first daughter's name.  I told my husband if I could name her he could name the next child.  Well, I never thought in the world he would do that to her.  My first daughter's name means angelic.  The second daughter's name is the Greek goddess of war.  They never have and still do not get along.

My granddaughter named her youngest daughter Magick.  Go figure.  I am getting used to it though.  It doesn't make any difference to me now.  She's an adorable baby.

  5. "so if I had a baby back when I was 18 or so"

Another reason teenagers shouldn't be having babies.  Older people tend to name their kids more normal names.  I have seen teens name their kids some of the most ungodly names.

Edit: It's true.  I know one boy named Steel.  There are others as well.  Names like what the poster below posted are normal.

  6. My sister named her daughter Brianne because someone convinced her it sounded less made up than Brianna.  She still prefers Brianna and the child is 24 now!

My brother and his wife couldn't decide on a name for their son.  She ended up naming him after her grandfather, which my brother finally agreed to since she had been the one that went through the pain of birth.  He still regrets that he had no say in the child's name and that he would have been happy with even just the middle name after our own dad. She now agrees that this would have been more appropriate, but blamed the raging hormones.  In any case, my nephew is adorable so we've all just gotten used to it.

  7. no...my sons name is nicholas, my name is nicole and his fathers middle name is nicholas....so it works PERFECTLY!

    EDIT-

apricot-- you've REALLY been pissing me off today, ive seen you make way too many comments about young parents. are you obsessed with us youngins or something? you should find something better to do with your time then bashing on moms.

  8. I wouldn't necessarily say I regret naming my son Daniel, it's just that Daniel is also my boyfriend's name. I'm just worried my son will become confused and not know his name. I love the name though.

  9. no regrets we named our children

Kristina (4, haha she has your name but with a K, very pretty name :])

    Monique (18 months)

    Nicola (18 months)

and one on the way, Jennifer (she is being named after a friend of my fiances that passed away)

  10. Our son, born in 1993, is named Dylon, pronounced the classic way like Dylan. We were simply going to name him Dylan after Dylan Thomas, the poet.

    Unfortunately:

    1. My best guy friend's name is Tom and my husband didn't want to name our child after Tom. Okay, fine, so he was Dylan Michael.

    2. Everyone kept asking if we were naming him after Dylan from Beverly Hills 90210 and gave us blank looks when we said, "No, it's after Dylan Thomas." And we were studying English/languages at University at the time.!

    3. So we figured if we didn't spell it Dylan, there maybe wouldn't be the 90210 connection hanging on our poor baby intellectual. So we decided on Dylon.

    4. So even our own family spelled it wrong for years, People pronounce it to rhyme with nylon, come to find out Dylon is some kind of industrial compound company.

    5. If we had it to do over we would have simply named him Dylan Michael, Beverly Hills 90210 would have gone off the air before he was in kindergarten, and life would have been good. Live and learn.

    Our daughter, Caitlyn...

I wanted to have a feminine version of Charles, naming her after my dad and all the Carl/Karls that came before him from Sweden, including my grandfather, great grandfather, etc.: Carly, Charlotte, Caroline, Carlyn.

My father in law, whose name is Wilbur, started bitching about whether any child was going to be named after him, as he and his father were also named Wilbur.

    Umm...no.

So then my husband decided we shouldn't name any child after family but I negotiated to keep the initials CR, so she is Caitlyn Rose.

I like it, but it's too ordinary and I think I should have stuck to my guns for Caroline.

  11. Nope my son is 3 weeks old and we named him Devin Nicolas. I still like it!!

  12. Yes! There are just too many choices, and it's really hard to decide someone else's fate by choosing their name. Even if you pick something you really love, someone in your family is bound to not like it, and you always have that nagging feeling in the back of your head that yoru kid will hate their name. I have two girls, with our first I never had any regrets, but with our second, I never really quite found the right name, and still feel unsettled about it. Apparently, its namer's remorse and a lot of parents feel it~ ha. Some parents actually change their kids names! Like well into their childhood! I just read about parent's who asked their 4 year old if she would like to be called a new name, and then a month later changed it. Crazy.
