  1. jump on the interisland ferry head over the south island, to picton, grab a rental car and go for a drive to nelson or kaikoura( only after you have done all the wellington things first of course!)  te papa in wellington is pretty cool too!

  2. Its been awhile since we visited N.Z, but I do remember the cable car and visiting Parliament house were really good.  They also run a Seal coast Safari where you can take a 4wd tour along the beach and see fur seals.

      Try checking out these websites.

    www.tourism.net.nz

    www.wellingtonnz.com

  3. As mentioned before, Te papa is always good. There's the Zoo which is fun. Have a look in some of the main streets of Wellington like Lambton quay, Cuba st, Willis street, etc for some good shops, art galleries cafes etc. Wellington at night is very cool, so you should go out at night for a bite to eat at some of the great restaurants. Also check out Kirkcaldie and Stains, a department store in lambton quay, it's very nice there. If u want to do some shopping, go for about a 20 minute drive into the Hutt Valley, where there is a great shopping mall called Queensgate, which has recently been renovated.

  4. karori wildlife santuary to see wild parrots. also te papa and the zoo.

  5. All the places mentioned.  Have a look at the Rugby Ground that got built a few years back - nick named 'the caketin'.  Strolls or blading along Oriental Parade

Do the day trip to Picton and visit some wineries in Blenheim (about 20 mins from Picton).

Mt Bruce Wildlife Center - if it's still there.

Canoeing on the Ruamahanga River.  There maybe somewhere closer ... eg Hutt River

    Enjoy your visit

  6. The Cable Car and Parliament Buildings (the Beehive) are interesting.  You can also go to Te Papa museum which is fantastic, though be warned it's a good 1-2 days to look through.

You might also like to hire a bicycle or roller blades and go around the harbour walk way, take  a drive up to Mount Victoria in the evening to view the city by night (always very pretty).

Over a day or two you can take the ferry across to Picton (about a 3 hour journey one way).

If you're a Lord Of the Rings fan you can tour locations of the filming.

Take a trip up the motorway to Lower and Upper Hutt - just smaller towns part of the same district.  You can make lovely bush walks.  Head over to the Wairarapa if you want to go further afield, wineries - which will be lovely at this time of the year.
