Thank you all. I can identify with Autumn's comment about people looking at you like you are from another planet. Most take their voices for granted. It can affect your life in many ways when you have difficulties with it.

  2. Yep, I've had spasmodic dysphonia since I was 17.  I've received quite a few Botox injections in the throat to treat it.  Luckily for me, the injections have left scar tissue in my throat which interferes with the spasmodic dysphonia!  So as a result, my voice isn't as bad as it was before I began the injections.  The injections themselves are temporary, though.

Having SD SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!  It bites to have something meaningful to say and no one can hear your message because they're so distracted by your voice.

  3. Hi,

I had a paralysed vocal cord 4 years ago.  It was caused by an auto immune disease I have (vasculitis).

I lost my voice, could not swallow without choking and liquid came out my nose.

My voice was reduced to a whisper and although I have had a complete recovery it took 12 months. I still lose my voice if I am stressed or tired.

I found my condition very frustrating as I could not be heard and people

look at you like you are from another planet.  Apart from a session with speech pathology there was no help with it, hardly any info on the net either.

Can anything be done for your situation? You can email me privately if you wish.

    Good Luck.
