Question:

Does anyone have suggestions as to why my 2000 Civic Si always wants to pop out of reverse?

Everyother gear (1st through 5th) I go through is just fine, but any time I want to reverse I can't. It just pops out. On flat ground or hills. As far as I know reverse doesn't have synchros so I don't think that would be the problem. If anyone has suggestions let me know, before I have to take it in and overpay a transmission specialist.

  1. try changing the trans. oil maybe its low.

  2. the syncronizer is bad

  3. There's a good chance the linkage needs adjusting or the gears could be getting worn.

  4. All it may have taken was for someone who didn't know the

gear pattern, at one point in time, to force the shifter and bend the upper shift linkage, which would be a relatively easy fix for sure.  Remove the center console, take your time with all of the screws that may be hidden, and check it out.  If not, you may consider the suggestions from your answers or by stopping by a local transmission shop or a Honda dealer for advice. There's no real sense into replacing a transmission unless this problem gets worse over time. If you hold it in place ?, does it stay in reverse ?

    Good luck to you....

  5. some cars have a reverse syncro
