Does anyone have the Olympus E410? ?

I just ordered one. It should be here on Friday. I can't wait to get my hands on it. When I read the reviews on amazon from others that bought it not one person had anything bad to say about it. SO I thought this must be good and you can not beat the price for a 10MP with lens.

I want to know if anyone has one? What you think of it? I have never had a Digital SLR but I have used my 35-mm SLR for many years. Photography is one of my hobbies. I am so happy I finally will have a DSLR I have been waiting for years.

What do you like and dis like about your E410?

It seems like EVERYONE and their mothers have the Nikon or canons. I never see much about Olympus. They are like the redheaded step child of Cameras.

  1. There are probably two main reasons for so many owners of Nikon and Canon cameras ... first and foremost, they are the choice of the pros, so there are hundreds of thousands of good used accessories including lenses and camera bodies available for those on a budget.  The second is that the Olympus digital sensors are the smallest made for a DSLR and one half the size of the full frame Nikon and Canon cameras and smaller.  This equates to less total resolution of the image files when compared to other DSLR's

When it comes to image file quality, the first level is lens quality ... Olympus is no slouch here.  Second is the on-board electronics that processes the image once it strikes the cameras sensor ... that includes the analog to digital converter and all the other options found on the cameras menu (white balance, sharpness, colour saturation, conversion to JPEG files, etc.).  Third is the size of the sensor .. BIG is better.  Fourth is the size of each pixel ... again, BIG is better especially at high ISO settings. and last and probably least is the number of pixels on the sensor.

  2. The E-410 is a very good entry-level DSLR. It's enjoying the "smallest in the world" title right now but it may not be for everyone. Did you get a chance to take a look at it before you purchased one? If you've used an SLR without a grip and are/were comfortable with it then you shouldn't have a problem with the E-410. Some people complain about the lack of a proper grip but I, for one, like the retro design.

At first I chose the E-510 mainly for the image stabilization, greater ammount of control, and the bigger BLM-1 battery. Having used it for so long I can now say that image stabilization would be the only thing between the 410 and 510 if I were to choose all over again.

I think you'll thoroughly enjoy the Olympus E-410. Welcome to the Oly family! The welcoming advice is to start saving. Once you see what can be done with Digital Zuiko glass you'll curse yourself for not starting earlier ;-)

  3. Reasons to get the E410:

    1) uses 4/3 system so camera and lens are smaller, and lighter than other camera systems

    2) kit lens is excellent quality compared to other manufacturers

    3) Olympus built the system from ground up for digital format

    4) produces excellent image quality

    5) relatively low price compared to Canon and Nikon offerings
