  1. Petty wasn't attacked after his 200th win, but I found this little incident according to NASCAR Chronicles-

    Oct. 1, 1972:

    "One of the most thrilling moments in NASCAR history came during the final laps of the Oct 1 race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Richard Petty and Bobby Allison rekindled their feud, which dated back to 1967.  The final five laps featured an epic slug fest between the two leading drivers.  Allison led Petty under the white flag, but Petty passed Allison after both cars hit the wall on the final lap and Petty won the final sprint to the finish line.  Petty was attacked by a drunk fan in victory lane after the race, but order was restored when Richard's brother Maurice smacked the fan on the head with Richard's helmet."

    LOL.  I guess fans took rivalrys to a whole new level back then.  And people are pissed about throwing beer cans these days.
