  1. I can relate to your tofu dilemma.  I've been vegetarian for 17 years, but for the first 6 years I was veggie I avoided tofu.  I'd eaten it and didn't much like it because it hadn't been prepared right and was pretty bland.  Also, I didn't like the texture.

Rather than give you one recipe, I'll give you a tip on where to find several really good, realistic (no bizarre ingredients) recipes.  I would very much recommend that you take a look at the Moosewood series of cookbooks.  In my experience with veggie cookbooks, they do tofu the best, hands down.  With the right preparation, tofu is awesome and I now eat it several times a week.  My library has many of the Moosewood cookbooks, maybe yours does too.  That would be a good way to try out the recipes and see if you like them.

(I love their easy baked tofu, which is awesome on stir fry)

I don't work for Moosewood - I just own all their books and love their recipes.

  2. Im actually in the process of writing a book about tofu and how to cook it. its quite extensive in recipes. the best way to cook is i feel, is, squeeze the excess water out of it. then in a large bowl crumble it into lots of bite sized pieces. put about 4 tablespoons of your favorite chicken seasoning in it (chicken seasonings are vegetarian!!!) and mix it with your hand.dice 3 tomatoes  half a medium onion and 2 DEVAINED jalapeno peppers. saute the veggies in a skillet til soft. add the crumbled tofu.saute for a  about 4 more minutes. Serve with a warm buttermilk biscuit.

  4. This is about the most amazing thing ever.

    Tofu sloppy joes

    Ingredients:

    2 tbsp olive oil

    1 small onion, minced

1 pound firm or extra firm tofu, pressed very well

    4 tbsp ketchup

    2-3 tbsp bbq sauce

    2 tbsp water

    1 tsp chili powder

    salt and pepper to taste

    bread or hamburger buns

    Preparation:

In a small bowl, mash the tofu with a fork until it has a crumbly consistency.

Sautee the onion in the oil until done, about 3-5 minutes. Add tofu and sautee another 8-10 minutes, until tofu is cooked, stirring frequently. Reduce the heat to medium low.

Add ketchup, bbq sauce, water, chili powder and salt and pepper and stir well. Allow sloppy joes to cook another 5-7 minutes, until ingredients are well mixed and hot.

Serve on bread or hamburger buns and enjoy!

  5. First I always prepare mine so it doesn't have that bland texture problem. Cut in 1/4" slices, drizzle with olive oil and soy sauce and bake 20-30 minutes at 400F. Store in fridge to use as needed.

Cut in cubes and simmer in a prepared curry sauce or Thai simmer sauce.

Cut in fine cubes and add to stir fry or a salad.

Layer with sliced tomatoes and basil. Like the salad with buffalo cheese, but tofu replaces the cheese.

Use as an ingredient in stew or gumbo.

  6. here are some recipes

    hope they help

  7. yes I stir fry the tofu with soya sauce add a veggie based sauce and put ontop of pasta with some grated cheese (i eat cheeses) if you dont just minus the cheese - cheddar works best
