Question:

Does anyone here agree with me about Man City ?

Now all the Man City fans are showing up on the forum shouting "We are breaking into the top 4" and winning the title, CL, etc. I mean why not, they will challenge for a 4th spot this season(but won't make it), speaking as an Arsenal fan(me) I should be scared, but I'm not....at the moment. In a few years every fan of the top 4 should be. Just think, its very simple, they will spend the most, more than £70 or 80 million in the January transfer window, that is only 4 months away. Big name players will sign, like Robinho, who signed for £32 million only hours after the new takeover. I want to hear what everyone thinks will they be a big threat to the major titles/cups in a few years time(where they will be a strong team)....?

  1. This year I don't see them inn the top four although based off how much this consortium is saying they are willing ot spend in the January window it could happen (£500m).  Next year though they will be a big threat and if they do manage top 4 this year then CL victory next year might be possible.  The new owners have gone on record saying they are willing to invest far more than Roman has with Chelsea and due to this there is a possibility that they can dominate the league for a while.  I myself am a Man U fan and this season like you I am not worried but next year is a different story and everything is going to be about how much can your team invest in their future?

  2. They will really only be able to attract a mercenary kind of player. e.g. someone who plays for money & fame rather than to win things.

Say what you like abotu Ronaldo etc but there is no way he would go there. Why would any of the top 10 players in the world go there? not Champs League?...no medals?....all the very best players want to be judged on field success...not monetary success.

They will not be playing Champ League this season and probably not even next season...i cant see them finishing 4th...5/6th at best. If they won the UEFA cup they could...but who can they sign that is world class and not already cup tied?...exactly!

So in my opinion they are at least 2 yrs from Champs League football...which means they are 2 yrs from attracting the real top quality players.

  3. Seriously, I don't know what Man City is going to be in the next few years.

But, I'll just tell you how I feel about this whole crazy thing right now. First of all, I am half-happy and half-upset about Manchester City being the new big spenders of the EPL. Instead of one club (Chelsea), we now have 2 clubs who are trying to splash a WHOLE lot of cash.

I am only happy about these new owners simply because the Abu Dhabi owners are massive rivals of the Dubai people. So after buying Man City, DIC could be more willing to takeover Liverpool and be the new owners. Our debts will be gone and we'll be back doing things the Liverpool way. Not splash the cash on every world-class player....but just get 3 or 4 of them. Besides, we already have a number of them in playing in good ol' Anfield :D

Anyhow, did you hear what the new owners of Man City recently told the press? They will be spending 540 million pounds on 18 world-class players! They want a team full of players each worth 30 million pounds! Honestly, I feel that that is a very unrealistic target. Come on, what, you're going to buy um, Kaka and put him on the bench? Oh I'm sure we'd love to see Messi just sitting right there next to the rest of his benchwarmer buddies .... maybe David Villa could be beside him .... Ronaldinho a little away.....GET REAL! No world-class player is going to want to spend half a season warming your benches!

And, I'm starting to wonder what EPL is turning into. Really, it shouldn't be called the English Premier League. Yeah I know some call it Barclays and whatnot but yeah English?! It's not English anymore! It's full of foreign players!

Okay, even if it is filled with foreign players that doesn't bug me much. I'm happy with my Torres and Mascherano, thank you :P But, what is getting to me is that ... in order to win the league these days, it's like you have to "buy" it...Which stinks, a whole lot. I mean I don't mind a team with 4 or 5 world class players....6, even. But come on, a WHOLE team of world-class players...that's just buying the league, seriously.

Today, after hearing Man City's targets and everything .... I just immediately went on MSN and told my Arsenal-loving buddy, "I admire Wenger. I seriously do. With young talent, and not a whole team of world class players, he can thrash a team 3-0, stay in the Top 4, and maybe even win the Premier League for all you know."......Arsenal fans shouldn't be too upset with Wenger. At least he isn't trying to buy the league or something. He's trying to win it with good talent along with some world-class talent. Not a whole team of it.

Man City....I don't know if they can just straightaway start winning trophies. I mean, look at Chelsea. They were already in the Top 4....But they finally won that EPL title when Mourinho came. Because Mourinho is definitely one of a kind. Legendary manager, really. Unfortunately things did not go well between him and the owner and was out of the club. Then came Avram Grant, and he did okay...2nd in the PL.....with a team full of world-class players....but still not first. Now with Scolari in, I won't be surprised if they win the PL again. Scolari is also magnificent.

So, back to Manchester City. I don't know how good a manager Mark Hughes is but .... without a manager that motivates you, inspires you, ... drives you to win that title....it's more of a challenge, really.

Then again, money actually COULD be everything! What I just said could be utter nonsense! With money raining on the roofs of each player....that could inspire a win, couldn't it?! Money flowing through their doors....swimming in a pool full of money. Showing that huge mansion of yours on MTV Cribs Footballers' Edition. Wow...

Honestly, I don't know. I leave it up to you. Whether it's money or the passion that's going to be the drive of teams to win the Premier League. What do you think?

Personally, if it's passion....I say it'll stay as a Top 4. But, hey, if it's the cold hard cash, we could have a Top 10, if more foreigners (especially Arabs and Russians) start dominating the EPL. :P

  4. If they buy George best, Gianni Rivera, Gascoigne, Gerd Müller, Hristo Stoichkov,Franz Beckenbauer, Stanley Matthews, Lev Yashin,Bobby Charlton,Oleg Blokhin, Flórián Albert,Alfredo di Stéfano, for their squad, they will sure win the Champions League.

  5. Paying huge amounts of money to attract players to a club does not always bring success. They have to play like a team and massive differentials in pay can sometimes cause unrest in the camp. I hope that Mark Hughes has made the right decision moving to Man C.

  6. The AD Group have a three year plan. Might just work but I wouldn't hold me breath. Let's see what results a week on Saturday bring.

  7. lol..are people now getting worried because man city now have money to spend..i hope they tan all your arses..can't wait for the blue side of the city to become dominant....

  8. I don't think they will do anything this season, however next season they will be the team to watch. I agree that in january the only type of player who will be interested in joining is one who only plays for money. A couple of months ago they offered Ronaldinho £200,000 a week to join. He ended up joining a team that is already in the CL, plus he said he could never live in Machester after visiting it!!

We've seen with Chelsea that you can't buy trophies. True, they've been a lot more successful than before Roman took over, but if money made that much of a difference they would be winning every game and every competition!!

So, to summarise, the huge cash injection will make a difference, they will finish top 6 i think, but it will not make them a winning team overnight. in 2-3 seasons time, however, it may be a different story...

  9. Some good players like Elano and Ireland maybe sacrificed from buy the players.

  10. As i'm a city fan,we did'nt start this mess, and now we can compete in the transfer market, there's a few concerned opinions(is that bitterness or jealousy)

Tell you what though watch your players

    as if we come knocking

    your players will be talking

    Good on The Citeee

Poor poor Rena dominated by foreigners, correct me if i am wrong when Arsenal had their unbeaten season ,did they have a full compliment of English players on the pitch(i dont think so)

  11. Maybe........but there's not much chance cause even if city has good players, the manager may not be good at tatics and the whole team will be DONE!but city can sack that manager(might not be possible cause he is a billionaire) and have 40% chance of success.

  12. I honestly don't think they will be as successful as people expect, as you say they will only get the mercenaries signing for them chasing the money, true players want to play for clubs with history like Liverpool and Man Utd, the player need to gel to make a successful team, look at Real Madrid, what have they acheived in the last few season, maybe won the Spanish league once and thats it, it does not always work.

  13. when chelsea won the league 2 years running that was supposed to be the end for utd and everyone else but hey despite them having more money than anyone they have not won the trophies that matter ie prem league /champs league in the last 2 seasons their egos got in the way ie the jose carry on they should never have got rid of him but im glad they did so to sum up only one team can finish top and the big 4 have many years more team building etc "in the bank" so im not worried

  14. Hi, Man City will be a major force soon purely because of the money they now have, however just like Chelsea it is dependant on how the manager controls the squad. If the board interfere like they do at Chelsea then it will be short lived. I'm a Man Utd fan (and a Manc) so it would be nice to see them challenging, as long as Man Utd stay in front lol. The top four Will n9o doubt become the top five in the next few seasons, or maybe more clubs will get taken over by rich Arabs etc and all the prem will be top flight! I believe it is time for football to go back to it's roots and only players born and bred in the area can play for the team, similar to how cricket used to be. That's the only solution to the growing wealth of the game, bring it back to the people that support it.

  15. They sound good and serious to me. They have got all the money they need but they will not be breaking into the top four. Football is not all about money but about investment it is not how much you have but how much patient you can be and you and I know this foreign owners are not patient at all. I am expecting Mark Hughes to be sacked if the team fails to break into the top 4 in their very first season which to me does not make sense and thats exactly what kills the foreign owner.

  16. Money doesn't win titles as Chelsea have shown. The team needs to have a good spirit, manager and gel, and this rarely happens when a big influx of new expensive players flood in.

  17. Yeah as a Liverpool fan I am concerned. Firstly because they will probably buy Torres, and possibly Gerrard too, and I think George n Tom would gladly cash in and not even think twice before selling them.

Secondly, I think if City are in a good position (not too far off the top 4) in January then they could easily break into the top 4. They'll buy loads of players and when the big four are dropping points because they've got players out injured or they're distracted by their CL campaigns then City may be able to close the gap.

Anyway I am still kind of glad that Chelsea may get a taste of their own medicine. lol

  18. I THINK MAN CITY WILL BE BETTER THN LAST SEASON, BUT LIKE ALL THINGS, IT WILL TAKE TIME.

  19. They will also need a great manager, money can buy u players but not the football knowledge. And managers like Wenger, Sir Alex, Scolari , Mourinho and such are all the more rare. However, the chances of them becoming a top force in Europe and England are high.
