Question:

Does anyone here even know what a "neocon" is?

Or is it another buzz word you toss around without having a clue what it means? Fascist and socialist are two other words that come to mind as well. I love to see how they get tossed around, but almost nobody that uses them as an insult demonstrates even the slightest understanding of them. Just curious...

  1. I find the word neocon absurd. I admit I don't know what defines a neocon.

  2. Paul Wolfowitz.

  3. Me, a former liberal who realized the ideological utopia that liberals increasingly worked towards doesn't exist.  A realist who may lean left on some issues, but on others such as defense, lost all faith in the Democrats.  I'm an atheist who believes in survival of the fittest.

Or whatever you want to call me.  I'm not bothered.  As long as it's not liberal/Democrat.

Vejay: I don't think he was talking about you.

  4. Neocons are ex liberals who joined the Republican party in the 80's. The major difference is that they believe in interventionist foreign policy to protect American interests abroad and project their superiority. (despite the negative impacts it will have on their countries population) Traditional conservatives and Republicans believe in a non-interventionist foreign policy which means we don't meddle in other countries affairs. This is different from an isolationist because we would still trade with all countries. The NeoCons along with the religious right has taken over the Republican party and shifted it to the left, and they have turned off many conservative which can be witnessed with the Ron Paul movement. Whether they can win this election season without true conservatives remain to be seen though but I am betting on a repeat of what happened in 2006 simply because the Republican party hasn't changed enough to to regain the votes they lost between 2004 - 2006.

Us "Dopes" actually take time out to write thought out answers that usually take more time then regurgitating the neocon approved lines.

  5. Although I am not one myself...the term is used so often incorrectly, that I find myself answering questions specifically directed to them.

I have in the past asked excessive users of the term to give me a definition.

I do know a neocon is not the fiscal conservative I am.
