Does anyone here still drive a car that is not fuel injected?

If you do, do you have plans to upgrade to the 90's or something? Also if you do how does your car preform---I mean would you drive it across the country or is it only something to get you back and forth to work? Is it good on gas or a hog? Also if you drive a not fuel injected car, do you think its better or worse than today's cars? Why?

  1. Hands down carburated car's have more power.. they have more room inside and just think of how much more car there is if you get into an accident?? i'd feel safer crashing a big car, well actually because i'm used to doing demolition derbies....   you can still get decent gas mileage out of carburated cars...look at the old volkswagon's or cars like that...

  2. I do.  It is much, much, worse than today's cars in terms of driveability, but it still gets about 30 mpg.

Without question, it would have been more efficient with fuel injection, but then again, modern cars would have also been much more fuel effiecient if they had smaller displacement engines.  Many of today's cars have got 300 hp from 3.5 liters, where my car has 97 from 1.6 liters.

I have no plans to remove my carburetor -BUT- I do have plans to add overdrive. I believe that would give me a pretty big bump in fuel mileage (bigger than anything I could do with fuel management.)

Adding fuel injection is certainly an interesting proposition.  You could think about adding a system off a similar sized later engine, but there aren't many engines the same size as mine.  Another problem is when they started using cam and crank sensors, they added complexity that couldn't be retrofitted without a lot of custom machine work.

  3. If I did it would be a part timer..carbs are ok and very good for horsepower..fuel injection is more efficient..harder to work on and much more expensive, but better for gas mileage
