Have you ever had it? Or Paw Paw jelly? They grow wild near where I am from but never had one.

  1. I first saw a Paw-Paw in southern Indiana, along a little-used hiking trail just north of the Ohio River.  Then I saw them all along the Ohio River, and even along the Chesapeake-Ohio Canal.

I don't know why the fruit isn't marketed, unless it's just too tender for transport.  I tasted the Paw-Paw and it reminded me of a sweet kiwi, but the skin was very tender.

It grows best in Zone6; it would not do too well here in the desert.

I understand the Paw-Paw is used quite a bit in the mid-Appalachian country.  Some of the best foods come from that region.

  2. Oh I do! I grew up in southwest Missouri & they can be found there....do you know the children's song about picking up paw-paws & putting them in your pocket?!  They are delicious!  Thanks for reminding me of them!  :)

  3. Well I live in S.W. region of Virginia and we have wild pawpaw trees that grow in the area.

The fruit is usually ripe around September . You'll know the fruit is ripe if you squeeze the fruit and its soft.

As for the taste of fruit , itreally depends. They're are different varieties of wild pawpaw , some varieties bear fruit that taste good and some that dont.

The really good tasting fruit is hard to describe. I would say they taste like a mixture of bannanas and pineapple.  The fleshy consistancy of the fruit is very soft almost creamy.

Some people like them , some people dont. But I think they are really tastey.

  4. Yes, I have in Australia. They are red, and quite soft, sweet. You either like them or hate them, they have a mild flavour. They are a tropical fruit, and would go in a fruit salad or possibly on ice cream, like mango.

  5. Asimina triloba Pawpaw  also called custard apple has a taste similar to bananas with a custard consistency
