I would also gladly pay someone to ship it. Reasonably priced online scobies would also be helpfull.

  1. I can tell you how to make the starter from scratch. I'm not in the US so I don't know where you can buy it.

To make the Kombucha plant you need:-

3/4 lb of sugar and 1/2 lb treacle simmered in 3 quarts of water, then poured into a jar (when cool enough!) and covered up and kept in a warm place for 6-8 weeks. The liquid becomes the Kombucha tea, and, on top, the Kombucha plant (a sort of fungus) is formed. By adding this, and a cup of the Kombucha tea you have made, to a similar solution the process will take a lot less time. (About three weeks)

The plant will thicken and form another layer underneath, this is the layer you use to do your next batch of Kombucha tea, and you need to add a cup of the liquid with the plant each time you start a new batch. You can either throw away the top layer or give it to a friend with  a cup of the liquid, to make their own tea. Thanks for reminding me about this. I haven't made it for ages and it is a health drink for improving your immune system. My partner loves it so will be very pleased that I'm doing it again! Good luck with it.

  2. There is the tea source in St Paul. If anyone had it locally it would probably be them.
