The people of Australia will decide to retain the Monarchy or become a republic. So far, the republic is not on the horizon. The new Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has now decided that a referendum on a republic would not occur in the first term of a Labor government . Which means, no referendum before 2010.

Her Majesty is Queen of Australia. And she will remain Queen of Australia.

I can obviously only speak for myself but my perception is the general public at large in the UK couldn't care less if Australia becomes a republic. Some probably already think it is.

It's a matter for Australians to decide.

Absolutely not, I can't understand why they (or the British) have hung on to her for so long. It makes sense for another country to have its own head of state.
