Does anyone know ANYTHING about the Indian untouchables or "Poosh Poosh"?

I have an Anthropology final coming up and my professor mentioned them in his notes, but I have no idea who they were or what they did! If anyone knows anything at all I sure would appreciate it!

I shook hands with some "Untouchables" while I was a Peace Corps volunteer in India. People thought I was crazy! But their hands weren't dirty...

The only reason that these people are considered "Untouchable" is because they were born into a Caste that eats meat, in a mostly vegetarian society!

The worst part about that, is they aren't allowed to slaughter the cattle, but they can only eat the animal after it dies of natural causes...Yuck!
