  1. Dapple Grey is a color not a horse.

The main breeds of horses that are used in barrel racing or usually Quarter Horses or Quarter Ponies. Also Appalossas, Arabians, Paints are a few other great horses for barrel racing.  A friend of mine had an Arabian. She competed in 4H for a bit and she got 1st and 2nd place the entire way to States in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, and Raised Key Hole. She also competed in youth rodeo. just remember the shorter the canon bone, the better off youll be, dont want canon bones breaking, Stay Away From Thoroughbreds!!!

  2. Dapple grey is a color.  Alot of the pro's use quarter horses and paints.  I do barrel racing and I have a quarter horse and a paint.  If your interested in getting started in horses go to your local stable and take lessons.  Also theres a book called The A.R.T. of barrel racing by Sharon Camarillo that you should read, its tells you lot about tack used for barrel racing and training tips and competing tips.

  3. Dapple gray is a color. Usually in Barrel racing they use Quarter horses.

  4. As the others have said... dapple grey is a color of horse and has nothing to do with a horse's ability. It's like saying a blue merle dog is good at agility or that black dogs make better watch dogs.

But kmnmiamisax, it's not true that there aren't dapple grey paints or appaloosas. Dappled is just a shade in the greying process (grey horses start dark then gradually go through shades like steel grey, rose grey, dapple grey, fleabitten grey, and eventually white grey), and has nothing to do with the paint/appy patterns. I used to know a horse who was a dapple grey pintaloosa. Since all greys eventually turn white, you wouldn't easily recognize all grey paints as having pinto markings.

  5. Dapple grey is a color of a horse.  Some horses who are dapple grey are great barrel racers, some are great jumpers, some great racers.  You need to look for a breed of horse before you look for a color.  There are dapple grey quarter horses who would be good at barrel racing.  Paints and appaloosas tend to be pretty prominent in barrel racing, but you won't find a dapple grey paint and you won't find a dapple grey appaloosa although you might find an appaloosa who is grey with white spots.

Sorry, i've just never seen a grey paint...  maybe a grey breeding stock paint, but never a paint who's grey with the white markings along its body.  I know any grey can be dappled, but I've never seen a paint be grey.  Come to think of it, I have seen a grey appy, so i take that back.
