Shanahan and Selanne have a hearing before the NHL and NHLPA regarding the awarding of bonuses to over 35 players and the effect on the Salary cap.

This provision (it's complicated) is being removed this year and it affects Shanny, Selanne and Mats. In a nut shell a team can sign a player over 35 to a performance based contract and the bonus sections may be applied to the cap at a reduced rate. The hearing is under way shortly and a decision will result where and when these players sign.
