Hi, live in an apt, have a lanai, was wondering if the screen itself would interfere with reception?

  1. Yes, the screen will attenuate (reduce) the signal, however I'm not sure how much.  Just about anything between the dish and the satellite will attenuate the signal including plants, glass and rain.  A small reduction in signal may not be a big problem most of the time but could make it easier to lose the signal.

If the screen is nylon instead of metal, it probably wouldn't be as bad.  However if the screen gets wet, like in a rainstorm, it can hold water and that would really kill signal.  You would probably be better off putting the dish on the outside of the screen.
