  1. try this http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/

  2. avg /avast home

  3. AVG Free is the best out there.  Go to free.avg.com

  4. Downloading a file or program over the internet wouldn't harm your computer as long as you are downloading a files/programs from legitimate sites. But what is more important is that you are protected by a Security program (anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall) on your computer. If you think that your computer doesn't have any protection/security installed, you may download the free anti-virus program from AVG ( visit the site http://free.avg.com/ww.download-avg-anti... ). This does have the anti-virus and anti-spyware protection. In line with a firewall program,if you are using a Windows operating system,by default it has the Windows Firewall, you just have to make sure that it is enabled.

Once you have all of these protection programs installed on your PC, your computer 90% protected. All you need to make sure next is to update these programs and at least once a week scan your computer using the anti-virus and anti-spyware program.

  5. This is a very good question.  You always should be cautious about downloading software you are unsure about.

I would highly recommend AVG.  Whenever I help install windows or help people with infected computers I always install AVG for them first.

AVG is not a heavy Anti-Virus program like many of the others.  Because it is not very heavy you will not have to worry about it slowing down your computer.  Check it out though.

Another one you can try is Avast4home

    Good luck

  7. AVG anti virus

  8. yup, avg.

  9. I've been using Avast for several years.  Aside from having to register with Avast (easy and free) and receive an activation code (free), I've found it to be very reliable and better than other products.  AGV has recently gotten to be a little over kill and troublesome with their free version 8.0

  10. You will have to be careful when downloading free programs. Some will actually give you more viruses as you have said yourself.

I have here a compiled list of free, trusted and reliable security software:

    I hope it helps.
