Does anyone know of any good popular book sites that give info on upcoming books, book reviews, ratings kind of like video game sites like ign or game spot but for books. thanks a lot

They give you recommendations for new books, as well as all the stuff you were looking for. My poetry professor from Sophomore year of college showed me this site. It's pretty good. I think you can become a member if you want and talk to other people about what you like about certain books or if you've found something great.

Have you checked out Amazon.com?  They are a feature-rich site with customer/user reviews of the books.

In addition, they publish a books of the month section that features new books with commentary and reviews.  Here's the link to the August version of that:

You might also check the other major online book stores such as Barnes and Noble.
