Question:

Does anyone know a good knot for elastic bracelet cord?

I've been making safety pin bracelets lately and they are extremely fun, when the knot holds. I've tried overhand knots and square knots, but they just don't seem to work. I use a 1mm elastic cord. Anyone have any tips?

  1. I use 7mm cord and it works best and I tie mine like I tie a balloon

  2. When I create bracelets and use the stretchy cord, I usually do a square knot, pull it snug, and then use Super Glue or something similar (there is a specific kind I use but don't know where the tube is now---purchased it from AC Moore in the beading/jewelry making section) on the knot...just a dab of it will do.  I let it dry and then the beads just slide over it.  Good luck :-D

  3. a bend is when you put two ends of cord or whatever together. a knot is tied in the middle or end of a cord.

go here to learn how to tie knots and bends:

  4. Any knot suitable for fishing line should work.

The simplest would be this - form a loop in one end, and push the free end through it - a basic thumbknot. Pull a little to close it down a bit. Now take the other free end, and feed it through the hole in the knot. Close the first knot to hold the second free end. Now loop the free end around the first end - and form an identical thumbknot on this end also. - Also with the thread in the centre.

So now you should have two thumbknots - both holding the other section inside them, but spaced apart.

If you pull on the loop you've created, they should slide to meet each other - and self tighten.

Another method is to form a thumbknot, but instead of passing inside once - keep going about 5 times, Put the other free end through, and pull tight on the knot, then do the same at the other end, and pull tight.

Both are knots for fishing line.
