  1. maybe perugia...i'm going to italy for the 1st time and my professor says that its a medieval-like town (i guess alot of historical stuff) above a more modern little city where all of the other cities are within reasonable distance (like florence, rome, pompeii, etc.  you just name it!)  it's sort of like in the middle of everything!

whatever you pick, i hope you and your mom have a great time!  :-)

  2. Try Modena. Pick up some balsamic for me while you are there.

  3. u should try Tuscany....and i hear that Umbria is very nice as well.

  4. Florence, Verona , Pisa, Milan, etc. etc. Pretty much anywhere in Italy.

  5. Go to Ferrara, just over an hour before Venice. It's a mediaeval  gem; has one of the most beautifully conserved city centres, a huge castle with a museum in it (Castello estense), one of the best  Art showcases (Palazzo dei Diamanti) a beautiful cathedral (12-13th Century) and an excellent local cuisine.

A branch of my family comes from Ferrara, so I can vouch for the friendly people; it  was the seat of the Este family (intermarried with the Austrian Hapsburgs) and became the home of Lucrezia Borgia, who changed roles from a Roman poisoner to a mecenate of the Arts.

  6. Orvieto, Arezzo, Bologna, Ferrara, and Padova are all on your route and each is worth a visit. You might also consider going slightly off the direct path and going to Verona for a day. Another choice that's only slightly off the direct path is Perugia. Since I don't know exactly when you're planning to be here, I can't recommend one based on any specific festivals, but each has interesting events during the year that could impact your decision.

  7. Ciao, i'm italian...

well, it also depends on the period of the year.. if you'll come in summer, i advice you to visit rimini or riccione... it's a really nice and fun place, expecially in summer...

or yes, i could advice Ravenna, Prato, Perugia, Modena, Reggio emilia.. all nice cities...

ehy, but come also in Turin, my city!! =p

but is not in your list.. Turin is located west of Milan...

However, the right name is "Siena" not "sienna" =P

    ciao have fun
