  1. Mattress sales are one huge scam.  Stores claim "WE'LL BEAT ANYONES PRICE" but then no two stores will carry the same brands and mattress models, it's frustrating.

All manufacturers make an "entry-level" (cheap) mattress, then a middle grade, and a top-notch.

A GOOD mattress will cost you anywhere from $900 and up.

The wife and I purchased a Laura Ashley ($1600) Sunday, in the store was a mattress priced at $5099. My jaw dropped FIVE THOUSAND - FOR A MATTRESS !!!!

In 2003 we bought a sealy ($700) and within 2 years the edge let go and it started sagging where we slept.  Any mattress with "pocketed coils" is going to be a good one.  Just take your time trying them out. Lay on them the same way you'd be sleeping, and give it 10+ minutes before moving on to another one.

    Good Luck.

PS. We tried a Sleep-Number (inflatable) and absolutely hated it.  After 5 nights we re-boxed it and sent it back.

  2. Beautyrest by Simmons is a wonderful mattress and they last a long time, but they are not cheap.  You get what you pay for.  Ideally you should go to a store and actually lie down on some beds to get an idea of what firmness feels better to you.

  3. I love my Sleep Number bed.  I didn't pay too much for mine because I found out that I could buy one that did not have the numbers, just a regular add air, subtract air switch, and then I used my old box spring because what difference does the base make to an air mattress?  I have been really happy with mine.
