Question:

Does anyone know a really good hamster cage?

Okay, I've been looking for a hamster cage for days. I understand the benefits of a bin cage (and actually would make one) but I don't have the tools needed. I'm getting a Syrian hamster soon, and if anyone has a good cage for Syrians, and it's easy to clean, could you please tell me what it is? Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places, or something....?

Please help! Thanks in advance!

  1. Something like this (my hammy's cage), http://file042a.bebo.com/12/original/200...

They are both awesome but the one on your right, even though it looks harder, is actually easier to clean...so something like that I guess (although it doesn't nessisarily have to be quite as big)

  2. i recommend a wire cage that can be separated from the bottom by latches... it is also easier to clean and it comes with a wheel on the cage.

  3. There are different types of cages available in market. I personally prefer a large wire cage with plastic bottom and various levels of tunnels inside for my pet syrian. However, do take a look at various types before you make the best selection for your pet hamster.

    AQUARIUMS:

A 10 gallon glass or plastic aquarium is suitable for one Syrian hamster. Although the glass is heavy, they are easy to clean. There is a limited area for toy placement however. Another thing to consider is that a top is required. The wire top is best since the strength of the wire would not allow the hamster to chew through it and escape. Also the wires in the top should be close knit not allowing space for the hamster to escape. With a good cover, aquariums are nearly escape-proof.

    WIRED CAGES:

The most popular among these are the mutlistoreyed cages allowing enough space for the hamster to roam around. Most multi-storied cages have a plastic tray bottom that is detachable and is easily cleaned. These cages generally work well for Syrians

    PLASTIC MODULARS:

These are cages with tubes and compartments that can be connected together to increase space as necesscary. The primary problem with these types of cages are the lack of doors to get the hamster out for much needed personal contact and the lack of ventilation in the tubes themselves.

FACTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A CAGE -

All external doors and openings should be secure so that the hamster cannot escape.

All openings and tunnels inside the cage should be big enough to accomodate the syrian when it grows up.

The cage should be easy to dismantle and clean

The cage should be well ventilated to allow in fresh air

The cage should not have any sharp edges that can injure the hamster.

  4. I recommend a 10 gallon tank because:

    -very easy to clean

-your hamster won't kick bedding out

    -easy to pick your hamster

also get a good mesh wire top so he won't escape and for good ventilation.
