  1. Ingredients

    2 cups of plain flour

    2 cups of water

    2 tablespoons cooking oil

    4 teaspoons cream of tartar

    1 cup of salt

    food colouring (optional)

    1 cup of plain flour

    1 cup of water

    1 tablespoon cooking oil

    2 teaspoons cream of tartar

    half a cup of salt

    Method 1 - Saucepan

    Place all the ingredients in a saucepan at a low heat. Stir continously until the mixture thickens to a firm dough texture.

    Method 2 - Microwave

    Place all the ingredients in a plastic container and cook for one and a half minutes in a microwave. Stir the mixture and microwave again for one minute.

    2 mugs of plain flour

    1 mug of salt

    2 mugs of cold water

    2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

    4 teaspoons of Cream of Tartar

    Optional : few drops of food colouring and/or glitter

    * Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar (and glitter if using) together in a saucepan

    * Add the cold water, vegetable oil and food colouring gradually

    * Cook the play dough on a low heat, stirring all the time until the mixture slowly thickens into a big stretchy elastic mass that is so stiff you can’t stir it anymore

    * Tip out the dough onto a work surface and wait few moments until it is cool enough for you to handle

    * Knead for a few minutes until you get a lovely smooth, soft and pliable dough.

    * Your homemade Play dough is now ready to use.

    * Store in an airtight container in the fridge and it should keep for a couple of weeks at least.

    VARIATIONS

    MICROWAVE PLAYDOUGH

    2 mugs of plain flour, 2 mugs of salt, 2 mugs of cold water, 2 tspns of oil, food colouring, 4 tspns of Cream of Tartar. Mix all ingredients together in large bowl.

    Cook in microwave for 1 minute on high power.

    Remove and stir well.

    Cook in microwave for 1 minute more.

    Knead well.

    NO-COOK MODELLING DOUGH

    1lb plain flour, 1lb salt

    Simply mix together with cold water to make a dough.

    This is great for rolling out to cut out shapes and modeling all sorts of pretend food, decorations and animals!

  7. Hi I used to work at a playgroup and this recipe worked really well.

    20oz plain flour

    1lb salt

    2 pints water

    50grms cream of tartar

    5 tblsp oil

    any colouring

    mix in saucepan over med heat for 10 mins, should leave sides of pan. cool, store in an airtight  container. Have fun!

  8. Make Your Own Play-Dough

    You'll need:

    Flour 3cups

    Salt 1 1/2 cups

    Water 3 cups

    Vegetable Oil 2TB.

    Cream of tartar 1TB.

    Food coloring few drops or unsweetened "Kool-Aid" 1pkg.

    Mix ALL of the ingredients in a large saucepan.

    Cook over medium low heat, until the dough comes away

    from the edges of the pan and it becomes difficult to move the spoon. Remove from heat. Cool until it can be handled.

    Place on counter or wax paper knead 3-4 times.

    Store in an air tight container.

    Bread and Glue Clay  

    Easy Recipe

    You’ll need :

    8 slices of day-old white bread

    (Less expensive fluffy type)

    1 /2 C. White Glue

    Food color

    Flour for work space

    Wax paper

    To Make:

    Remove Crusts. Break bread into small pieces and put in mixing bowl. Pour glue over bread. Mix with one hand until

    it becomes a sticky mass. Take the out of the bowl and

    form into a ball .With both hands keep patting into a smaller ball until it becomes just slightly tacky. Dust work surface

    with a small amount of flour and knead gently until it

    becomes smoother and more pliable. Knead firmly at this

    time. Knead until texture is satiny, about 5 mins.

    Wrap tightly with plastic to store. Remember to seal the unused portion while working.

    To color dough tear of portion needed , flatten and add

    color directly onto dough. Blend until satiny again.

    Add flour, if needed to achieve the proper texture.

    Air dry. Drying times vary depending on thickness.

    To speed up drying place on cookie sheet and leave

    overnight in an unlit oven. Paint with acrylic paints

    (optional) and seal with spray on finish.

    Easy Tip - Clean Up Time

    Keep sticky, paint covered hands away from walls and furniture, with a wet soapy washcloth next to the project area.
