I have heard about an Italian restaurant near Philadelphia that you can eat at the chef's table in the kitchen. Anyone know where this might be?

  1. London Grill and 2 Dmitri's locations cook right out in the open.  At London Grill and Dmitri's on Christian, you can sit and eat at the "bar" overlooking the grill area where all (or most) of the food is prepared.  Roy's downtown (16&Sansom?) has the same set-up.  The entire kitchen is visible to the restaurant and you can eat at the "bar" facing the kitchen.

  2. NO SORRY

  3. This shouldn't be possible as it would violate Health Codes.

  4. Bucca diBeppo on 15th in Center City has a chef's table in the kitchen area and servers' stations. There's a lot of traffic going by due to the host escorting guests to the dining area via this route. So, if you want passers-by to see you eating at the chef's table, this is the perfect place.

I have been to Bucca three times and haven't returned for a while, b/c I find the food only so-so. It's claim to fame are gigantic meatballs (yes, they're the biggest I've ever seen), and large family-style portions. But, who wants large portions of mediocre food?

I recommend Maggiano's on Filbert St. It's a great alternative and a step up, but I don't think it has a chef's table in the kitchen.

  5. The only one I've ever seen is in Exton, a good bit outside of the city. It's called Buca di Beppo http://www.bucadibeppo.com/

It's Italian & you can eat at a table in the kitchen :). Good food too!

Ooh! Just looked again & there is one in Center City Philly.

  6. Benihanha's

  7. No health codes are violated. You already have people in the kicthen cooking. What's being violated when you having people watching them?

It's Buca di Beppo. It's directly in Philly.

Some friends of mine & I dined at their chef's table. The food was cool. It wasn't spectacular, but we got plastered and had a good time.

    A few other's include:

Lacroix at The Rittenhouse (French - the chef prepares for you a customized menu. You just have to let them know your restrictions. It's no fun if you have a lot of them. It's also alot more fun with there are at least 3 of you dining.)

    Zahav (Israeli)

Osteria (Italian - kinda - they have a chef's counter that overlooks the kitchen. They'll only reserve it if you're going to be there within 30 minutes or so. It's usually saved for walk-in guests.)

These places will usually only allow you to dine Sunday -Thursday (except Osteria), because the weekends get insanely busy.

    These places have open kitchens:

    Tinto

    London Grill

    Little Fish

    Lolita

    Dmitiri's

    Susanna Foo

    Estia

    Fork

    Striped Bass

    Patou
