  1. Sorry, I do know of any site but here is my two cents. If you want to cut down on costs, you can find a landscaper/architect that will draw up the plans and leave you to do the installation. If there is a lot of hardscape going in, you probably want them do do that and then you can still do the plants.

When planting, try to get the plants in the smallest size container that you can. Around here, some landscapers spec plants in a container size that is just way TOO big and a smaller container is often better and definitely more economical. For example, we bid a plant job for a landscaper that wanted to plant 5 gallon lavenders. What a complete waste of money!

So, try to get small container (like 4" or so for perennials). For shrubs you can use 4" if you can find it but 1 gallons are a good way to go. For trees, you will have to shop around and see what you can find. Also, be reasonable and know that your new landscaping will take time to mature. Don't expect instant results. Be patient, in time it will grow and fill in nicely.

Doing the planting will save you some money but will take time on the phone locating all of the plants required. So, if you want to take it on you will be rewarded by you hard work in the end. Good luck!

  2. Assume you have a deck or patio.

    1. Over-shade - $2000 min.

    2. Trees - $50 ea in moderate sizes. Put trees in the first year.

    3. Planting beds, avg - Ornamental tree - $30, evergreen shrubs - $20 ea, deciduous plants - $10 ea, fabric - $10, bark - $10.

    4. Paved walk - $20/ft
