Some idiot is posting an ad on craigslist selling a 1992 Impala SS.

Unless I'm an idiot, Chevy didn't start making the SS until 1994. I'm obsessed with anything Chevy and preferably Impala's made between 1994-2005. From SS to LS. After 2006 the model looks like every other car out there. Same bada$$ engine, whack design.

So first right answer gets best answer.

You are so right my dear! The original Impala SS came out in 1994 it lasted till 1996. I simply typed: History: Impala Super Sport and all kinds of "good stuff" sprung up.

You are correct - that poster is an idiot. The car in the ad is a Caprice, not an Impala (you can tell by the chrome and the wheels), and is not a 1992 either. The reason I know it's newer is the rear fenders/quarters - the year the Impala came out, Chevy got rid of those half skirted wheel wells in the rear, the Impala has rounded wheel openings, and so did Caprices from that year on.

Take a look at the pic posted on Edmunds for a 92 Caprice and note the rear fenders

so - either they're a liar or a moron, either way I wouldn't buy a car from them

The picture in the ad probably isn't even an actual picture of the car for sale. You all are critizing this person for posting a picture of a Caprice instead... if she doesn't care enough to take care of the car or even know what kind of car she's selling... she probably doesn't care enough to post a correct picture of the car!! Duh!!!

The idiot is trying to pass off his caprice for an impala. Most of the enthusiats call these cars a Capala. The true impala ss is a 1994-1996 and is euipped with a 350ci 5.7l LT1 Corvette engine. Alot of the caprices only came with a 305ci 5.0L engine a much smaller V8. Also if you pop the trunk on your impala there should be a code sheet sticker on the trunk lid that will give you the cars codes look for: 9cl meaning posi rear end. The rear wheel skirts are only for 1992 and older caprices. I had a 93 caprice and it did not have rear wheel skirts. Unfortunately the only "bada$$ engine was the V8 in the newer body style impala they use the cookie cutter 3800 V6 engine that are very powerful.
