Does anyone know about Ethanol?

It is the most environmentally destructive fuel source.  To produce it, you need to clear land which will destroy the habitat of any wildlife living on it, plow the field, fertilize it, divert water to irrigate it, spray it with herbacides and pesticides and process the harvest.

Another miss calculated idea to keep our gas guzzling cars on the road.  Its use will create more ozone in the lower atmosphere causing more pollution than we need.  Its use will also drive up the cost of meat and other farm products.  In the long run it will not help us out but drive us closer to oblivion.

Its best use is in mixed drinks.  The second best is as an alternative fuel for cars and trucks.

Ethanol is a gateway fuel...it is not the great savior for breaking our oil addiction, but it can lead to better more efficient fuels that are derived from similar processes.  In response to the guy who said it destroys land...you must also be against farming as well because it's grown on current farm land.  Anyway, Ethanol produces mush less CO2 than conventional gasoline, but hopefully we will one day be able to turn to cellulose or some other kind of sugar to be the main source of our fuels, so there isn't a great battle between food and oil.
