Does anyone know about LOST or stolen Green cards?

My husbands Van got broken into last night and his wallet was stolen. Unfortunately his I.D. and Green card was in that wallet--No money though--LOL

Anyway--he was born in Cuba--but has been a permanent resident since 1969. They say he can't get go to the DMV to get his license with out his green card--But immigration says he can't get an appointment without an I.D. (very frustrating)

Don't people lose Green cards all the time? Isn't there an easier way then filling out all that paper work and paying $375 dollars and waiting for 6 months? I just find it ridiculous.

He has to drive for his job-- HELP--What can we do?

  1. One way or another you're going to have to file a form I-90 and pay the fee of $370, so do that ASAP as there is no way around it.

In the meantime, he could get a temporary I-551 stamp in his passport by paying a visit to the local USCIS office.

Were his green card and driver's license his only forms of ID? Does he not have a valid passport? If he doesn't, he should -- he's supposed to keep his passport current. A passport would be an acceptable form of ID. Then you could go to your local USCIS office and get the passport stamped with a stamp that says you're a permanent resident, until you can get your actual green card replaced. Using that stamp you could go get your driver's license.

Or how about a state ID? I don't know if USCIS will accept that for identification, or if you will be able to apply for that in the first place, but look into it.

  2. How about his passport?
