Does any one know if I can use weed killer in my irrigation ditch, without harming my crop or my neighbors crop? I guess my question is , will the weed killer get in the water and kill the crop?

  1. Check with the extension agent for your region.  look in the blue pages of the phone book.   call county info in you have a problem finding it.  Once you locate the office, take some fresh samples or some digital photos with you.  That is the best way to find out what you can or cannot do.

  2. Don't know what state you live in, but in many states it is illegal to use weed killer in/near water. Check with your county agricultural board. And yes, it is likely to contaminate other properties.

  3. It is against FEDERAL LAW to use pesticides or herbicides in any other way beside the reason for which it was made.  By dumping it in the irrigation ditch you are contaminaing the water source, which in some states is community property.  Check your weed killer container:  there will be bold sentences warning you of improper usage.

You may also be violating state laws.

Weed killer is highly toxic and can kill othe birds and mammals and cause severe neurological problems in humans.

  4. Yes the weed killer could get into the water and it may kill the crops the water runs down too. Some weed can be residual for weeks/months. be careful
