  1. I can't see it airing in North America. This whole d**n place is loaded up with adoptophiles who want to hear about people getting babies, not people getting back their stolen identities and families.

  2. I haven't heard about that show. What a great idea! They should televise it right after "adoption tales".  I'll look it up.

  3. Hi MamaKate,

I was optimistic when I first heard about the show, thinking their primary goal would be to help adoptees reunite with their natural families.  I even suggested that an adoptee friend of mine look into it since she was having challenges locating her natural family.

Turns out it's a form of exploiting adoptees for the entertainment value for everyone else.  I think it's sad when adoptees find themselves in such a predicament with sealed records that they would even have to consider resorting to such lengths to get what is their birthright.

I would much rather see a TV show entitled "change adoption law."  Thanks for asking.

  4. In Australia - we have open records - and it's not frowned upon to look for one's first family (well - certainly not as much as in the USA).

Jack Thompson is a great Australian actor - and an adoptee himself.

I hope it is done well - but am always skeptical on how such a show on commercial TV can benefit adoptee's and first parents - especially when there are so many emotions involved.

Many women were coerced out of keeping their children - and told to go home and never ever talk about it.

I so hope it's done with compassion and care.

The first series he was in - about finding his own family - was done on a TV channel here that is not as 'commercial' as most of our other stations - and runs some great documentaries. (they've shown a wonderful doco called 'Gone To A Good Home' - about the Baby Scoop Era here in Australia)

The commercial stations are more worried about bringing in the money - and the bottom line.

I worry about the story being glossed over or sensationalized - just for good ratings.
