  1. I found this in the news:

MONTEREY CO.: DRINKING WATER IS HIGH IN MERCURY, POSSIBLY UNSAFE

Residents in the greater Las Lomas Area of Monterey County should not drink the tap water because it contains higher than normal Mercury levels, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office reported that the water could have been contaminated during the vandalism of a storage tank that services about 3,000 residents on Saturday.

Sheriff's personnel responded to the vandalism at the end of Las Lomas Road in Watsonville and found the tank's hatch was forced open.

The California Water Service Co. tested the water and found the higher levels of Mercury.

Residents from Sill Road to Garin Road in the greater Las Lomas area should not drink the water until the water service company says otherwise.

Mercury affects health more so when it is inhaled but is most harmful to pregnant women and their wombs, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Web site, http://www.epa.gov. The Web site states that when a womb is exposed to a specific chemical form of Mercury, it can cause impaired neurological development to the fetus.

Anyone with information about vandalism or suspicious activity at the end of Las Lomas Road should call the sheriff's tip line at (888) 833-4847.

  2. I found the same article- that was it. Once again, residents on this side of the bridge are ignored and the issues are not publicized. I called a cousin in Watsonville and they had no clue what was going on here. I called the water co to get bottled water from them (we're still paying- right?) since we have a newborn and the person in charge was suppose to call me back an hour ago.

Now I wonder if the water supply already had mercury in it because who would vandalize a water system with mercury?
