does anyone know how bad your thryoid has to be to get on meds? like what point thing it has to be on

    Good info here. Like the article says, the numbers aren't the only indicator to consider.  

  3. When they do a thyroid test they actually test for a hormone called "thyroid stimulating hormone" or TSH which tells your thyroid to produce more. Normal is between .5 and 5. Lower is better because that means your body is happy with the amount of thyroid hormone and not producing TSH. Any reading above 5 definitely calls for medication and some doctors will prescribe meds for numbers above 3 or 4. I am on high doses of thyroid medication (my initial TSH reading was over 10) and we try to keep my numbers below 1 because that is where I feel best.
