Question:

Does anyone know an easy way to clean a George Foreman Grill?

A few years ago I bought one of those double wide George Foreman grills -- you can cook two hamburger patties on it simultaneously. The grill is excellent because it cooks all sorts of meats and you can also use it to toast sandwiches, etc. The biggest problem for me is that cleaning it is a HUGE headache.

I've found that it is easiest to clean one of these things if you clean it right after you're done using it -- maybe let it cool off for a couple minutes, but you want the grill to be somewhat hot otherwise it's impossible to clean the grease off. Even with the grill still hot, it takes me a good 15 minutes to get it all cleaned up. Has anyone found a fast way to clean these things?

Thanks :)

  1. I pour a glass of water on it shut the lid for a couple seconds and it all wipes off with a paper towel

  2. I've had one for a number of years and I know exactly what you mean.  Maybe we should ask old George.  Anyway, here's what I've found to be the best way:

I half fill the sink with hot water and add dish soap.  Then I put the lower end of the grill to the edge of the sink and let the fat drip into the sink as the meat is cooking. After the meat is cooked, I wait about 2-3 minutes, then scrub both parts of the grill with one of those long handled dish scrubbing brushes, using the hot water in the sink. Then I wet a dish cloth in clean water and wipe the grill down to get the dish soap off. It works okay for me because it removes all the crud and grease.

  3. throw it out and get another one on ebay.....

  4. i clean with really wet soapy sponge will its still very hot. creates a steam that helps get oil off

after wiping with soapy sponge rinse sponge and wash down with water

    then dry with paper towels

  5. It's hard to clean when you're not allowed to submerge it in water. Some cooks lay a damp paper towel in it while it's still warm and then close the lid.
