  1. 24 hour child care? Yes, the parents home. I can't believe you would want to shove your kid in childcare for 24 hours!!! That is an abomination!!!

I hope i read it wrong and you were looking for a childcare centre that would mind children in case you were a shift worker or something like that, not for a whole 24 hours at a time. You should just try getting a reliable babysitter to stay in your home rather than a child care centre. Have you seen some of those places? Those poor workers get paid a pittance as well, bloody Howard. I'd go for a babysitter (or really, i'd go for being a stay at home mum, but that's just me.)

  2. votehowardout - how wonderful that you presumably are in the position of being financially able to afford to be a stay at home parent.

Some of us, however, are not so fortunate and so we do, from time to time, need to place our precious children in quality care while we earn a crust.  I am assuming that the question asker is looking for care that is open 24 hours (to cover night shift work, for example), rather than needing to place their child/ren in care for a sustained 24 hour period.

Even this, however might have it's place if for example the parent needed to be admitted to hospital and had no family or friend supports who were able to look after the child/ren.

I have to say I found your comment to be narrow minded and insulting.  It's no business of yours why a parent would need a particular care arrangement and as a working mother I would be livid if someone chose to comment on my need to work in that way.  It is up to my husband and myself to select the most appropriate care arrangements for our children when we are not personally able to care for them, and unfortunately, it is sometimes the case that we are not.

To the OP - I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your question.  You might like to try calling some of the centres near you that provide "regular hours" care and asking if they know anyone who provides out of hours care.
