  1. TomS: community colleges here in Canada are not degree granting institutions per se. If they offer university level courses at the undergraduate level it would be under the rules and guidelines of a university and students would have to be admitted to a university beforehand.

As for the question itself, I think you will find that most higher level universities (meaning those that offer both undergraduate and post graduate degrees) offer Psychology. I should mention, however, that most schools do not have their own education psychologists on staff. I did my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Queen's University in Kingston and I can tell you from experience that the competition to gain admission to post graduate studies is intense.

I'm not sure where you heard that you need 2 years undergraduate since an undergraduate degree is 3 years. Master's degrees are often 2-4 years, depending on your field of study.

I would strongly advise you to contact the University of Toronto, or York University or even Ryerson if you wish to remain in Toronto. Alternatively, you can check out McMaster university in Hamilton, a quick GO train trip.

Perhaps the easiest route for you would be to sign up for an honours degree program - which is a 4 year undergraduate degree program - and then see where you can go for your Master's degree. I should add that it's conventional for students to do their undergraduate degree at one university and their Master's degree at another university.

    Hope that helps.

  2. You really need to clarify what it is you're looking for..."school" and "education" really aren't the same thing. Are you looking to be a psychologist at a school? A guidance counsellor? A psychologist specialising in how we learn and interact within educational environments? An early childhood educator? There's also something called counselling psychology, which is usually lumped with educational psych.

In Ontario, there are no 2 year first-degree programs at University. College only. I doubt you need only 2 years--you likely need an undergrad degree in either psychology or anything (if they don't want a psych degree specifically, then they'll take any degree--though you likely will need several pre-requisite courses). You might even need a B.Ed. on top of that. Then you'd go to grad school for probably 2 years.

You should probably start out at http://www.oise.utoronto.ca -- THE school for education (or so I hear). Mega popular. Therefore, mega competitive. Also, I don't see anything labelled "education psychology" there...which is odd, given UofT usually has everything; in fact, it appears the only place in Ontario that has it is UWO...which makes me think it goes by other names. If you're really looking at the first or third thing I mentioned above (or something else perhaps), you more than likely need to go somewhere that has a Faculty of Education along with a psychology department. In Toronto, there's only UofT and York; the next nearest would be one of Brock, Guelph, Wilfrid Laurier or Trent, depending on where in Toronto you are.

But, clarify what you mean, and I can definitely help :)

No matter what you actually meant, I can tell you this: if you're trying to get into any kind of program that requires some post-secondary education, they WILL want experience...time to start racking up those volunteer hours!

  3. Most, if not all, Community Colleges (Jr. Colleges) have the ungergrad portion of the phsyc classes.

For the graduate half, any standard university or state college (i live in US, not sure what the equivilent is in Canada) will have it. The universities will also have the ungergrad portion, but you can save money by doing those classes at a junior college.

Its a very popular major becuase it is everywhere.
