Does anyone know any free virus protection thats better than AVG and scans and actually gets rid of the virures than just dectecting them and it would be useful if it was free permently.

The answer above is completely bias.

AVG does in fact include real-time protection, actually the best I've seen. It also includes a right-click > scan with avg for individual files manually scanned. This is mainly just extra assurance considering AVG will tell you upon downloading/opening whether its a virus or not.

IMO AVG is the better choice but Avast may suit you just was well, its personal preference.

Avast! gives a 1 year home use licence. It provides real-time protection against spyware, adware and viruses and not just a crappy scanner like AVG.

Rather than Avast that only comes with a one year license get AVG the best I have found so far and It does offer real time protection despite what the other poster states.
