  1. Let me assume you are talking about software to work on a PC. If so, then ...

Frankly, a good video editing software, certainly a good one to start with, is absolutely FREE!  It's called Windows Movie Maker.

Movie Maker comes with Microsoft Windows, and if it's not already on your computer you can download it for free from Microsoft. It doesn't lock up, easy to use, and does most of what most non-professionls want in a video editor.

There are better programs that cost around $100, like Studio 11 from Pinnacle (I have this one, but still sometimes use Movie Maker), or Adobe Premier Elements or Corel's VideoStudio, or Sony's Vegas Movie Studio. Those are the most popular. You can find them on Amazon.

But frankly, I'd start with Microsoft's Movie Maker first and try it. You may find it does everything you want.

Movie Maker (as well as the ones above that you pay for)work with Panasonic and other digital video cameras with the miniDV tapes, or DVDs or hard drives, just about any video camera sold in the past 5 years.

  2. No, I don't edit on cheap editing systems, I only edit on Avid, or FInal Cut.

  3. I'm using pinacle studio 11 ultimate and it is pretty good. I used pinacle 9 for a few years but 11 is much better.
