Does anyone know any good math projects for a 10th grade special education class working on pre/algebra skills

  1. 1) If it's things like ratios, do cooking without a microwave. Use lots of measuring cups & do ratios with those.

    2) If it's probability use marbles & objects from sets of plastic figures. Figure out probabilities the object chosen will be a big or small marble, etc.

    3) If it's charts, graphs & tables use things in the room or simple psychology things that will teach the students about psychology, too! Have them poll students & teachers about topics: how many believe in the death penalty, jail vs. paying people back for property crimes, etc. figure out percentages & chart or graph the results.

    4) If it's decimals & percents & interest have them do things with real money. Give them pretend checkbooks & pretend incomes for being prepared for class with materials, etc. Then, subtract for mistakes, etc. Then have them calculate amounts they'd put in savings accounts, interest, money lent to friends in class, etc.
