Does anyone know any good perennial flower to plant?

I live on they east coast and we have hot summers and cold snowy winters. I usually plant annuals, but I am rebuilding my flower beds and land scaping and I would like to plant some perennial next year. They will need to be something that can be in a sunny area. Any Ideas. thanks

Do you know what zone you're in? That will make a difference.

Coneflowers are one of my favorites - they're beautiful, smell good and you can cut them for arrangememts.
