  1. There are no beaches in Guadalajara but there are many other things to see and do while you are there.

Your first stop should be the Tourist Office at Morelos 102.

They speak English and are friendly and very helpful. They will be able to recommend things that the whole family can enjoy.Be sure to pick up a Guadalajara Weekly,a free English-language newspaper and /or a Mexico Living and Travel Update and a map of the ciy's historic district.Guadalajara also has two Tourist Information booths. One is in the Plaza Tapatia and the other one is located in the Plaza de Liberacion.

    Buena Suerte!

  2. There are many places to see and things to do - depends on your taste

  3. Well, you are about 3-4 hours from the beach there, but some of the other suggestions look good!

Depends on how old your kids are. In the south east section of the city is an area (suburb) called "Tlaquepaque" (tlacky-p***y). It is an older and colonial area which used to be a separate town. It is simply one of the very best places in all of Mexico to see "artisanias" from the simple goods made by local craftsmen to the great studios of such artists as Sergio Bustemante there is probably no better place to see and buy great Mexican art and local crafts than Tlaquepaque. In the center of town there is a great plaza with dozens of open air bars and restaurants which are extremely authentic and very fun. (Its almost like stepping back a century in time)

Mariachis are everywhere in this plaza and the  music is continuous. At night inside the center of the plaza is usually a free Mariacahi concert.

I live in Mexico City and have visited at least 20 states from the north to the south, east to west over the past 25 years. Tlaquepaque remains one of my favorite places in all of Mexico.

(Also just to the south you have Lake Chapala, there San Juan Cosala has excellent hot springs and heated pools which are fun for the whole family!)

  4. For the family you should definitely go to Selva Magica. It is a great amusement park kids and adults can enjoy. The zoo is also located next door too. There are no beaches there but there are many water parks you and your family can enjoy like San Juan Cosola near el Lago de Chapala. It is a very family friendly environment with spring- water filled pools, slides, suanas, message, jacuzzis and a great view of the nountains and el lago de Chapala. Medrano is a great place to shop. There are may stores and shops to purchase nice clothes at. If you want to go to the beach, the nearest beach is about a 3 hour drive away Also, San Pedro is a lovely mini"centro" you can enjoy. I hope you have a blast there. Bon Voyage!!
