Does anyone know any good prose pieces for a competition?

I have a speech and drama tournament coming up and can't find a good prose piece. I need a humorous, 4-7 minute piece, hopefully in a girl's point of view. I don't want anyone to think I'm cheating, so just give me a good author. I'm in middle school, so I don't want anything like Edgar Allen Poe or Shakespeare, you know? Nothing over my head. Thanks!

  1. Rethink the Poe thing.  Telltale Heart...it's killer and makes a great reading.  Also look into "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury.  Those were always two of my favorites.

  2. Oh, I did this one for UIL Prose and Poetry and it ws great.. try reading it, the book is fantastic.

"'Til the Fat Girl Sings", by Sharon Wheatley. really good book. Anything you read from there would be good.
