Depends what kind of food you want to eat! The Bel and Dragon by the river is really nice. Almost more of a gastropub than a restaurant but still very nice.

It's some time since I was last in Reading but if you like spicy food then there is a good Nepalese based restaurant, run mainly be ex Ghurka soldiers.  The name and road I can't recall, but if you come down Castle Hill, turn left, come down the hill under the railway bridge, past the fire station and the sorting office, turn left at the roundabout, it's maybe 200 yards along on the left hand side.  Good food and reasonably priced.
