  1. Anthony's (best fish & chips in SD)

  2. Old Town and Little Italy are close.

  3. As others have mentioned, Old Town and Little Italy are close. Both are easily accessible using the Trolley if you choose not to drive.

Old Town is just north of MCRD and has several good Mexican restaurants. Casa de Bandini, mentioned in another post, is no longer in business. Try Casa Guadalajara or Cafe Coyote although the others there are just fine. Make sure to get some margaritas!

For Italian food Little Italy is south of MCRD and has many restaurants and cafes to choose from.

MCRD is close to downtown San Diego so almost any type of food you want is relatively close. The Gaslamp Quarter has dozens of restaurants and bars. It will take about 15 minutes to get to the Gaslamp from MCRD.

Unless you have luggage to haul around I recommend taking the trolley. MCRD gate #5 is at the Washington St station. Old town is one stop north (Old Town), Little Italy is a couple stops south (Little Italy station then head uphill, away from the bay) and the Gaslamp is few more stops past Little Italy (5th ave on the blue line or Gaslamp on the orange line).

Enjoy your visit, Congratulations to the new Marine!

  4. Casa de Bandini in Old Town is close.  It's been there for years, has a wonderful atmosphere, and the food is good.

  5. Those are two good answers. Anthony's is on the bay, with a nice view and excellent fish. Many walking attractions right at hand.
