Does anyone know any good software that can control my camcorder ?

I`m looking for a software that supports zoom and record through FireWire.

I`m using a Sony DCR-HC17 and would like to mount it on a crane and zoom and record using a laptop.

I don't know what a HC17 is - but I presume you are referring to a HDR-HC7. There is no software that will do what you want.

If the HC7 has a LANC port, you can connect a LONG cable to a LANC (wire remote) and do what you want.
