  1. It depends...Glade skiing or JSA on the groomers I listen to jam bands and bluegrass. When I ski something gnarly I want good fast guitar driven rock. AC/DC usually does the trick. It really depends on my mood and the weather/conditions/traffic/etc. The more dirtbag and rustic the resort, the more prone I am to listen to the Grateful Dead, at prissy resorts I'll listen to anything from the Beastie Boys to Skynyrd.

  2. I know of a good song called 'Wipe Out' by the Sufaris.  It is as old as the hills, and it is about surfing in the water, not skiing, I am sure.  However, I hear it played as background music pretty often.  It is peppy and gets you in the right spirit.  Hopefully, while you are playing it, you will not wipe out.

Otherwise, I do not think you should limit yourself to just one or a few genres of music.  You should try out a few and stick to whatever gets you in the spirit.  Fast, peppy tunes, for the most part, would be ideal.  Rap and hip hop songs might be a bit too choppy if you want your skiing to go smooth and fast.

If the person sitting next to you is boring or annoying, you might want to try some Heavy Metal, and turn up the volume, to prevent yourself from falling asleep.  In addition to 'Whiskey in the Jar', Metallica has quite a few spirited there.  If you are really just enjoying the scenery and the fact that you are alive, while riding the lift, I would suggest something a little more middle of the road and slow.  If you get the feeling that the shack at the top of the hill is by a solitary pervert, maybe something by Michael Jackson could be in order.  His music is still intact, at least.  Also, when riding the lift, something classical might put you to sleep.

I like 'Centrefield' by Creedence Clearwater Revival/John Fogerty because it is peppy.

'Scotty Doesn't Know' is a must!  This song about a loser will put you in a good mood on the decline, which is much faster than the ascent.  The song is only 3:06 minutes long.

I think you should keep downloading different music, both what is on the charts and what is already known.

I love the first signs of winter!
